San Mateo wins Best of the Road for Food! Last summer the City of San Mateo entered the 2013 Rand McNally Best of the Road competition with a single focus — to win the title “Best Food.” After several weeks of voting and engaging the community, Rand McNally announced the winners naming San Mateo BEST Food!
San Mateo is the BEST small town in the United States for FOOD. The City of San Mateo is building the San Mateo Best Food brand and will market San Mateo as a food and dining destination using print, online and social media to ensure that those looking for an exceptional dining experience will know to visit San Mateo.
The Rand McNally Best of the Road prize package includes: a license to Rand McNally’s Best Town Travel, an online travel planning guide and iPhone app custom designed for San Mateo, an editorial feature in the 2015 Rand McNally Road Atlas, and coverage on www.bestoﬅheroad.com.
Branding San Mateo Best Food. The City of San Mateo is creating a San Mateo Best Food brand that restaurants and food specialty stores can use to promote the food and dining culture in San Mateo. Marketing collateral includes: the launch of sanmateobestfood.com featuring San Mateo’s food and dining culture, a static cling window decal to place in the window or door of your business, a logo to incorporate into your website or promotional materials, coasters to build brand awareness with customers, and ongoing promotion at facebook.com/SMBestFood.
Both will become available later this year! The City of San Mateo is working with Rand McNally travel editors and programmers to develop these exciting applications.
Both feature a map of San Mateo and include a listing of restaurants, commercial areas, hotels and local points of interest that can be plotted on the map. Users can personalize their experience by creating proﬁles and customized travel itineraries.
